While the few Soviet Alumni associations and groups in the Third World during the Cold War could be characterized as part of the local Leftist activism, the revival of the global Soviet Alumni movement(s) after 1991 is indeed an integral part of the international relations of the Russian Federation. Based on the knowledge relations established during the student years, the Alumni, on the one hand, developed multilayered and diverse relations with Russia: business, cultural, social and other relations. On the other hand, the Alumni networks and the newly established associations are integrated in the geopolitical and public relation strategies of the Russian government.

By exemplifying the Association of the Graduates of the USSR Higher Educational Institutions in Lebanon and the Ibn Sina Club of the USSR Graduates in Jordan as well as their interactions and cooperation with the Russian umbrella organizations “INCORVUZ/ Инкорвуз - Международный Координационный Совет Выпускников Учебных Заведений” and “Global Alumni Alliance/ Всемирная ассоциация выпускников  высших учебных заведений”, the lecture will focus on the development and activities of the Soviet Alumni associations in the Arab World.
